¿Por qué y cómo me mudé a Londres?

Hoy os estaré explicando por qué me mudé a Londres y cómo lo hice para conseguirlo.

A principios de 2018, estaba finalizando 2n de bachillerato y tenía que empezar a pensar qué carrera quería estudiar y dónde. Mi plan A siempre fue irme a estudiar a Barcelona y es gracioso ver ahora como cambian las cosas. También tengo que decir que ya sabía más o menos lo que quería estudiar.

Para entender cómo pasó todo, primero os tengo que contar que en esos momentos tenía una relación a distancia con mi pareja desde hacía un año y medio, él vivía en Londres y yo en la Costa Brava, Catalunya.

Alrededor de Febrero 2018, me fui de vacaciones a Londres a visitar a mi pareja. Durante esos días, surgió la idea de que yo me mudara allí para estudiar mi carrera universitaria. Yo lo veía como una completa locura y nunca pensé que realmente fuera a pasar, pero aún así, le di una oportunidad y empecé a investigar sobre el tema.

Cuando le expliqué a mis padres por primera vez lo que quería hacer, se rieron de mi y me trataron como loca (una reacción completamente normal dada la situación). Pero yo seguí repitiéndoles todos los días que si me aceptaban en la universidad, me mudaba sin pensarlo. Siguieron riendo, pero yo no me daba por vencida. Yo era menor de edad aún, ya que no cumplía los 18 hasta que empezaran las clases en setiembre, así que lo tenía un poco complicado para convencerlos. Aún así, mi estrategia fue repetírselo todos los días, con seguridad de mi decisión, hasta que finalmente empezaron a entender que tarde o temprano me iba a independizar, y que no me podían impedir hacer lo qué yo realmente quería. A partir de allí, todo fue más fácil.

Apliqué para 5 universidades diferentes a través de una agencia, la cual envía tu aplicación a las universidades que tu elijas, y luego solo me tocó esperar. Sinceramente no tenía muchas esperanzas de que me aceptaran, ya que pensaba que no tenía el nivel de inglés suficiente como para entrar en una universidad inglesa.

Al cabo de un par de meses, me llegaron cartas de varias universidades diciendo que me aceptaban con una oferta condicional. Es decir, me aceptaban siempre y cuando aprobara el bachillerato con una nota mediana/buena. Así que me concentré en sacar buena nota, y aunque no necesitaba la selectividad para entrar en la universidad, la hice por si a caso, ya que nunca se sabe que puede pasar.

Llegó el momento de elegir la universidad a la que quería ir. Investigué sobre cada una de ellas. Una de las cuales me habían aceptado, era la misma en la que mi pareja estaba estudiando, y ademas tenía muy buena fama en el tipo de carrera que yo quería estudiar. Así que pensé, porqué no? Esta es la mía! Todo esta saliendo a la perfección y no podría ir mejor. Así que me matriculé en la Universidad de East London para estudiar Media and Communication.

Llegó verano y solo tocó esperar hasta setiembre, que fue cuando finalmente me mudé. Yo aún tenía 17 años y estaba un poco asustada ya que tenía muchísimo papeleo por hacer y no tenía ni idea de cómo hacerlo. Mi pareja me ayudó muchísimo en todo el proceso. Cuando llegué allí, me quedé en casa de su familia hasta que conseguí todo lo necesario para vivir en Inglaterra, y hasta encontrar una habitación cerca de la universidad. El momento de buscar piso fue muy estresante, ya que como os podéis imaginar, Londres es muy bonito pero también muy caro. Alrededor de octubre/noviembre, mi pareja y yo encontramos la habitación perfecta, y de pronto ya teníamos nuestro pequeño nuevo hogar.

Ahora, estoy viviendo una experiencia que nunca imaginé que iba a vivir. Estoy viviendo en una ciudad increíble con mi pareja, estudiando lo que realmente me gusta, y mejorando mi inglés poco a poco. Aún sigo teniendo la sensación de que estoy viviendo en un sueño, porqué realmente es un sueño echo realidad para mi.

Así que animo a todos lo que quieran mudarse a otro país, a todos los que quieran hacer sus sueños realidad pero no tienen la suficiente seguridad, id a por ello! El proceso a lo mejor será difícil, pero la recompensa será mucho mayor. Y aunque creas que es imposible, inténtalo y no te quedes con las dudas! Yo tampoco pensé jamás que lo lograría, y lo hice!

Así pues, a luchar por lo que realmente quieres!

Why and how I moved to London?

Today I'll be explaining the reason why I moved to London and how I did it to do it.

At the beginning of 2018, I was ending my second of college and I had to start thinking what degree I wanted to study and where. My plan A had always been going to study to Barcelona, and it's funny to see how things change sometimes. I also have to say that I already knew more or less what I wanted to study.

To understand how all this happened, I first have to tell you that in those moments I has having a distant relationship with my boyfriend since a year and a half ago, he was living in London and I was living in Catalunya.

Around February 2018 I went to London on holidays to visit him. During those days, the idea of me moving to London to study there came up. At first I saw it as a completely craziness and I couldn't believe that it could really happen. Despite my thoughts, I gave it a chance and I started researching about everything.

When I explained to my parents for the first time what I wanted to do, they laughted at me and they trated me as crazy (a completely normal reaction given the situation). But I kept telling them everyday that if I was accepted at uni I would move without thinking it twice. They kept laughing but I kept fighting. I was a minor at that moment as I didn't turn 18 until the first week of class in september, so I had it a bit more difficult to convince them.

My strategy was telling them that I was going to move everyday, confident with my decision, until they finally understood that sooner or later I was going to become independent and that they coul'dnt get in the way of what I really wanted. From there, everything was much easier.

I applied to 5 Universities through an agency that sends your application to your chosen universities and then I just had to wait.

Honestly. I didn't think I was going to be accepted as I thought I wouldn't have the enough good level of English to go to an English University.

After two months, I received some letters from different universities saying that they accepted me with a conditional offer. Basically, I could get in only if I passed my college years with good marks. So I focused on getting good marks.

The moment to choose the University that I wanted to go arrived. I made a lot of research about the Universities. One of the ones that accepted me was the same one where my boyfriend is studying and it also had a good reputation regarding what I wanted to study. So I thought, why not? This could be my opportunity. And I enrolled at the University of East London to study Media and Communication.

The summer arrived and I couldn't wait until September, that was when I finally moved. I was only 17 at the moment and I was scared and stressed as I had a lot to do and I had no idea how. My boyfriend helped me a lot with all the process.

When I arrived to London, I stayed at his family's until I got the necessary things to live in the UK and until we could find a room close to Uni.

The 'finding flat' kinda of moment was very stressful because as you can image London is amazing but very expensive as well.

Around November we found a room that was great for us and we made it into our little home.

Now I'm living an experience that I would never have imagined that I was going to live. I'm living in a great city with my boyfriend, studying what I really like and improving my english step by step.

I still have the feeling that I'm living in a dream, because really, a dream came true for me.

So to everyone that want to move to another country, to everyone that want to make their dreams come true but don't have the enough confidence, I encourage you to do it and get it! The process can be hard, but it's really worth it. And even if you think that it's impossible, try it and get out of doubts! I never thought I could make it, and I did it!

So, let's fight for what we really want!
